Location – Archipelago of stars

La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club is the pearl of the Maddalena Archipelago. One of the most stunning locations in the whole of the Mediterranean, this constellation of sixty-two islands boasts wonderful beaches and crystal-clear waters. It is a uniquely beautiful environment which is now a National Marine Park and UNESCO World Heritage site.

Reaching us – A step away from paradise

A dedicated transfer service for hotel guests means that reaching La Maddalena from the airport and port at Olbia couldn’t be simpler. The island of La Maddalena is a ferry ride away from Palau, which is 45 km overland from Olbia and 35 km from Porto Cervo.

Climate – Endless summer

The island of La Maddalena basks in a wonderful Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers refreshed by a pleasant breeze. Winters are mild, with temperatures never falling below zero. Hotel – Nature by design La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club, the pearl in the crown of Italy’s new Eleganzia hotel group, lies in an unspoilt natural setting close to the most stunning beaches and all the facilities of the town. The hotel stands on the site of the former Military Arsenal. Harmony, light and style make this five star-plus Design Hotel a masterpiece of contemporary architecture. There are 95 rooms, including 4 Junior Suites and 2 Executive Suites. Complete immersion in the beauty of the landscape unites the hotel with its surroundings. Everywhere you look there are wide open spaces and a sense of freedom, the finest furnishings and highly sophisticated detailing.

Architecture – Looking to the future

La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club was designed down to the very last detail by some of the stars of modern architecture, starting with Stefano Boeri, who oversaw the entire project. In a perfect marriage of modernity and respect for the traditions of the islands, the interiors were created by Antonio Marras, responsible for the highly original flooring in the foyer (a homage to the famous carpets of Nule), and the internationally renowned design team Sawaya & Moroni that created the stunning furnishings for the rooms and suites. The chandelier in the foyer, designed by superstar architect Zaha Hadid, adds a futuristic finishing touch.

Sophisticated pampering, impeccable professionals and a natural environment unlike no other in the heart of Sardinia

For those who wish to rejuvenate their spirits and body and appreciate the quality of exclusive services, it is a regenerating plunge into a true oasis.

The highlight of the Forte Village Thaermae is the thalassotherapy programme, with which is associated a series of anti-aging treatments based on our exclusive sea oil formula, designed and patented for the resort by the medical team led by Dr. Angelo Cerina.

Treatments such as criotherapy, salt and mud massages exploit the dual combination of sea oil and salt to tone and strengthen the skin, eliminating excess liquids and the most obvious signs of skin aging. To look after yourself, with grace and elegance.

This is one of the many reasons why we consider ourselves the inventors of Italian thalassotherapy, why we are considered to be among the top ten spas in the world and belong to the exclusive “Leading SPA of the World” circuit.

Sardinia looks like a miniature continent. Since the Phoenicians, it has been considered the ‘heart of the Mediterranean Sea’. It is also the second largest island – after Sicily – of our ‘mare nostrum‘. Sardinia’s insularity has always influenced its history, culture, language and the features of the population (1.066.000 inhabitants). The main cities are Cagliari and Sassari.

The territory consists of mountains and rocky areas for the most part. As a matter of fact, the most ancient finds are made of stone, like the Nuraghe, monuments which are said to have had astronomic-religious purposes (the Nuragic civilization dates back to 7000 BC). Then (2000 BC) other monuments were built in the area, constructions like the Fairy Houses, the Giant’s Tombs, the Dolmins and the Menhir (large upright ‘standing stones’).

Throughout the millenniums the history of Sardinia has been marked by pride and consistency, driven by the necessity of preserving its own independence, sparing the land from any kind of invasion. Sardinians have fought against the Carthaginian and Roman control, the Arabs (in the Middle Ages), the Piedmontese and the Savoy (in the 1800). And yet today in Sardinia – like in Corsica – there is a movement for the autonomy of the island.

The mixture of ethnic groups and civilizations has produced a rather precious archaeological collection made of Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman finds: cities, amphitheatres, bridges, aqueducts and fortifications, which have all remained well-preserved.

An important legal document dates back to the 1300: it is the so-called Carta dei Logi, an act that regulates many aspects of the social and mercantile life with a set of detailed civil and criminal laws.

But now Sardinia is especially appreciated for its incomparable natural charm. Famous Italian song writer Fabrizio De André, who lived on the island for a long time with his family, stated that such an oasis of beauty ‘is the best way God could have chosen to bless men’. The change of seasons produces some unique colourful sceneries. Tourism is highly developed, and all the sports related to water (swimming, canoeing, sailing, fishing and windsurfing) are obviously very popular.

Benvenuti in Ogliastra

A sea of history
