The Comunità Montana dei due laghi – Mountain Community of the two Lakes (Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta) includes seven Communes, where natural beauties harmoniously merge with artistic ones. An exceptional landscape, where mount Mottarone acts as watershed between the two lacustrine extents, and a maze of paths, old alleys, among monuments and sacred constructions.
Nebbiuno, Massino Visconti, Pisano, Colazza; Ameno, Miasino and Armeno: within these seven towns concentrates, among others, a rare artisan patrimony, properly decorated with the “Artisan Excellence” trademark given by Region Piedmont.
Massino Visconti, besides a curious Umbrella Maker monument, offers the great Castle of the Viscontis. Artisan firms are multifarious, from bread making to flowers (honey, cheese). In the area is remarkable as well the legendary Benedectine abbey of St. Savior.
Nebbiuno distinguishes itself, among others, by the artisan excellence of its wood: furnishing restoration and decoration for antique dealers and churches, as well as refined hand manufactured articles for furnishing and adorning the surrounding villas in Piedmont and Lumbardy. Remarkable is St. George’s Church, for its great organ and the antique painting that portrays St. George killing the dragon.
The route then unwinds among churches, old alleys and panoramic views of Lake Maggiore, ending in the towns of Tapigliano and Pisano. Then, here it is Colazza, which is important for the tradition for wrought iron and two major churches, enriched with holy works: St. Bernard and the Immaculate.
Ameno, on Lake Orta, may be defined as a little art city: museums, churches, the Oratory of St. Joseph, Palace Tornielli and Museum Calderara.
Miasino as well, besides its interesting baroque church, boasts a prestigious tradition for wood, thanks to renowned masters in furniture-making, very skillful in inlaying ornaments and panels.
Armeno, at last, offers the beautiful Romanic church of the Assumption, and astonishes the visitor with a unique museum dedicated to the hotel life, among antique wines, precious bottles, cookery books and rare menus.
This is the “Comunità Montana dei due laghi“.
